#AtoZChallenge 2006 Newbery Winner 'Criss Cross' by Lynne Rae Perkins

In 2006, the Newbery Medal Winner was 'Criss Cross' by Lynne Rae Perkins. Because I teach younger children, I have lost touch with these fabulous chapter books in recent years. This coming-of-age novel looks like another good read that I must add to my list.

I have included the Amazon blurb with the book cover. Click on the cover to download from Amazon and to read other reviews.

Book blurb:

She wished something would happen.

Something good. To her. Checking her wish for loopholes, she found one. Hoping it wasn't too late, she thought the word soon.

Meanwhile, in another part of town, he felt as if the world was opening. Life was rearranging itself; bulging in places, fraying in spots.

He felt himself changing, too, but into what?

So much can happen in a summer.

  1. The female protagonist's voice in this book sounds quite delightful, doesn't it? So much can happen in a summer indeed, especially at that age.

  2. I'm headed to Amazon now, thank you for the recommend.

  3. You never get too old for a good book, even one written for a younger audience. I always enjoyed reading my nieces' and nephews' selections when they'd order their Scholastic books.

  4. You know when my DD was young and read everything she could get her hands on, I remember a librarian telling me how much better young adult books were vs adult books. She said, they have to be given the audience. She went onto tell me most of the librarian she knew preferred to read young adult books over adult books. I hadn't remembered that until reading your post. Next time I get a book...I may look at things differently.

  5. Sounds like a book for my 12yr old daughter...thanks for sharing..blessings!

  6. Interesting blurb... it certainly leaves you feeling completely intrigued. It doesn't give much away!

  7. I left a message on one of your other blogs, too, but wanted to confirm whether you intend to continue with this and Andi's Kids Books, as well. If not, let me know and I'll remove your blogs from the list. Thanks!

    1. I had a feeling today that I would be getting more messages. :-) I just caught up with all of my other blog work this evening after having to take some unexpected time off last week. These are all outlined and listed, just not written. Diving back in tomorrow! (I may even sneak on while my students are at music class. Shhhh!)

    2. Oh good! Should I assume all twelve are continuing? I didn't want to keep harassing you on all your blogs once I realized, lol.

    3. Lol, no worries! Yes, all of them will continue. I started making lists as long ago as last year for a couple of them. I had a panic today, because I had temporarily misplaced the notebook that had them all in it. Found it on my way home from work. Last year I only did 8 and fell behind, but still finished before midnight on the 30th all the way around!

    4. I wouldn't be happy if I lost my list for just one blog, ha! I give you major credit for doing this on twelve blogs. Good luck with the rest of A-to-Z!

  8. Hi, I'm stopping by on the A-Z Challenge. Nice book cover.
